WESTERN SHORE: BRAND STORY
Gilford Nana was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, in a family of creatives. His aunt was an African fashion designer, his mom a seamstress, and his dad a fashion connoisseur. Growing up, Gilford developed an eye for art, style, design, and fashion, which led him to pursue the American Dream with his family in the United States.
As an immigrant, Gilford faced many challenges, including a broken perspective of art, design, fashion, and creativity. He wanted to bridge this gap by using his experiences and inspirations to create a brand that was not limited by his African identity but was recognized as a symbol of excellence like his African counterparts including Edward Enniful, Virgil Abloh, and Oswald.
Gilford Nana’s journey from the Western shores of Africa to the Western shores of the United States inspired the creation of Western Shore. Western Shore is an accumulation of all that Gilford has seen and experienced as an immigrant up to becoming a citizen of the US. For Gilford, it means quality, decadence, and intentionality in fabric choice to design.
Los Angeles is the chosen backdrop for the first Western Shore shoot to symbolize the depth of the shore.
Western Shore is more than just a brand - it's a symbol of the journey and the enduring beauty of the natural world. Through Western Shore, he hopes to inspire and empower others to pursue their dreams and never limit themselves based on their identity or background.
